May 24, 2026 – GOHH Autism Resources Workshop

On May 24th, our community came together for a meaningful and empowering event dedicated to supporting families raising children with special needs, with a special focus on support services. The afternoon offered practical guidance, heartfelt conversations, and valuable resources from three inspiring speakers.

Nancy Hendy, Program Manager with the Every Child Belongs Unit at the City of Toronto, opened the session with a clear overview of childcare supports available to families across the city. Nancy shared some great resources and also conducted one-on-one sessions to address questions from families that are very specific to their particular circumstances. Psychotherapist and clinical counsellor Thaodra Workneh led an engaging, interactive discussion on self‑care and sustainable care strategies—reminding caregivers that their well‑being is essential, not optional. Helen rounded out the program with an accessible breakdown of educational financial resources, helping families navigate funding pathways and long‑term planning.

While parents participated in these enriching sessions, their children were cared for by trained professional caregivers experienced in supporting children with special needs. This dedicated onsite care allowed families to fully engage, learn, and connect—knowing their children were safe, supported, and understood.

The event highlighted not only the challenges families face, but also the strength, resilience, and community that surrounds them. It was a day of learning, connection, and hope—reflecting our shared commitment to ensuring every child and every family feels supported.
