One of GOHH’s key missions is fostering a supportive community for Ethiopian and Eritrean elders in the greater Toronto area. We aim to achieve this through a variety of initiatives and events where our elders can come together and engage in social networking, have meaningful conversations, exchange information, participate in light physical activities, and more.
GOHH’s Annual Seniors Trip – A Day of Joy and Togetherness
September 19, 2026: The GOHH Seniors trip to Niagara was a day filled with joy, discovery, and the kind of togetherness that makes a community feel like family! From the moment the bus pulled out of Toronto, the atmosphere was lively — thanks to our unofficial MC/DJ who filled the ride with lively music, storytelling, and warm humor that had everyone smiling before the journey even began. Along the way, the group enjoyed a comforting Habesha dabo breakfast with some coffee and tea.
The group travelled to the charming streets of Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake, where they strolled through the historic town, explored local shops, and soaked in the scenic beauty that makes the area so beloved. The adventure continued with a guided tour of the area, including a memorable stop at the famous Floral Clock landmark, where everyone gathered for photos.
Lunch was a peaceful lakefront Agelgel (አገልግል) picnic overlooking Lake Ontario, with a gentle breeze, beautiful views, and pockets of relaxed conversations that only happens when people truly feel at ease. It was a moment of calm, connection, and shared appreciation for the day.
Before heading home, the group made a fun stop at the popular open-air outlet mall, where our seniors enjoyed browsing, shopping, and finding a few treasures to take back with them. This trip was more than a day out — it was a celebration of culture, friendship, and the joy of experiencing events together. It reminded everyone that community is not just about gathering; it’s about sharing moments that become cherished memories.

The entire afternoon was filled with learning, connection and meaningful conversations — and featured a special shout-out to GOHH organizers & volunteers in the form of a beautiful poem by one of the attendees. A true reminder that wellness is not only about information, but also about togetherness and mutual appreciation. GOHH is proud to continue creating spaces where seniors feel valued, supported, and celebrated.
